Vehicles in Germany's Town Found Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Police reported they were notified by a resident who found a automobile in Hanau marked with red-colored liquid

Roughly fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.

Officers report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.

The liquid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.

Officers then located multiple other smeared automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials say early analysis suggest the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no indication as to its source; officials are presently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they added.

City officials announced they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for information.

An important political figure said the attack rendered him without words and had to be resolved promptly.

"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a gunman targeting individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
